Angus Blair is a General Partner at Outset Ventures, where he co-leads the investment team and has spent the past five years building New Zealand’s leading deep technology venture portfolio. He has originated and led dozens of early-stage investments across Funds I and II, shaping Outset Fund I into a top-decile performer and helping establish the platform now scaling into growth, infrastructure, and industrial strategies.

Prior to Outset, Angus was a founder and product leader in design, sports technology, and applied artificial intelligence, working with global partners including Intel, Oakley, and New Balance. Earlier in his career, he competed internationally in powerlifting and coached the New Zealand national team — an experience that continues to shape his bias for precision, performance, and long-horizon commitment.

Angus is known for translating complex science into investable strategy and for partnering closely with technical founders from first institutional capital through international scale. He led the first institutional rounds into OpenStar, now delivering world-first plasma fusion milestones with government partners, and Kwetta, which provides high-voltage DC fast-charging infrastructure by connecting directly to transmission-level grids to unlock existing capacity and deliver grid services. He has also led early rounds into Ternary Kinetics, Wellumio, EnergyBank and others.

He serves on the boards of OpenStar, Kwetta & EnergyBank, is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors, and works closely with New Zealand government agencies on defence, export controls, sovereign capability development, and global market access for frontier technologies.
